When Only One Book Shows Up (And God Shows Off Anyway)
Book signing event....with only one book
Last week was one of those evenings that fills your heart to the brim.
We gathered at Vaughn Park Church — my home church and now my spiritual family — for a night of fellowship, stories, and books. As in the Vaughn Park way, we began with dinner at 5:30 pm, the kind of meal where you feel the warmth before you even sit down. At 6:30 pm, we shifted into a discussion around The Journey, a powerful discipleship experience I recently completed and am now in Co-Guide training for (soon to help guide others through it!).
From there, our Lead Minister, Tim Rine, introduced the six authors in attendance, sharing a brief overview of each of us and our work. Friendly faces smiled back at me — most of whom have known me only recently, yet welcomed me as family.
The author lineup was incredible — stories of faith, perseverance, and transformation filled the room. I stood shoulder-to-shoulder with some fantastic writers, including my table neighbor, Elizabeth Williams Matthews (Minding Your Liz), whose book, That's BIG: Believing It’s God!, radiates her joy and conviction.
And then…the plot twist.
My publisher had promised that both orders of Whole. Loved. Free. would arrive by August 12th or 13th at the latest. One order made it. The other? Well…not quite. In fact, only one copy — yes, a single book — arrived in time for the event. My grand display was a one-book wonder.
If you're going to have only one copy, at least let it go to someone special — and it did. That lone copy found its home with Elizabeth, who graciously adopted it like a rare first edition. We laughed about it, and the kindness from everyone in the room reminded me: it’s never really about the display, it’s all about the connection.
The rest of the books arrived the next day (finally!), and I spent the afternoon writing personal notes and signing each one. I prayed over those copies — that every person who opens the cover would feel God’s presence in the pages and see a reflection of hope in their own story.
Nights like that remind me that community and support are vital. We won’t accomplish much alone. We grow when we serve others and allow them to serve us in return.
Whole. Loved. Free. is more than just a title to me — it's a journey I've walked, and a truth I want to share. A piece of my heart is woven into those words, and my prayer is that each reader feels that.

Sometimes the books show up late. But God? He's always right on time.
